I’m officially awesome. No, really, I have a certificate to prove it and everything. They even gave me $1000 because I’m so awesome.

Here’s me getting officially recognised as being awesome

How can you become Officially Awesome? Apply to the Awesome Foundation! It’s a remarkable idea: get ten people together, get each of them to contribute $100 per month, and between them choose someone who they think is doing something worth supporting, and give that person or organisation the $1000. Isn’t that awesome?

The Perth chapter is relatively new, it’s only been going six months or so, but it’s hard at work handing out money to worthy causes every month. We contacted David Perich, one of the founder members of the Perth chapter (and the man in the photo giving me cash) to see why he got involved:

I originally wanted to help start Awesome Foundation just to see some cool stuff happen in Perth. I thought it was a great way to give back, without really having to do much individually. Get together with some mates each month and pick something we thought would be cool. What I like about Awesome Foundation now is that it says to the winners: we believe in you. A 1000 dollars is not a life changing amount of money. Ten people saying your idea is awesome and I want to give you 100 dollars out of my wallet to see that idea happen is pretty huge.

I can confirm that just having ten people in a room tell you that your idea is worth something is a great boost. Having them back that up with cash is amazing.
