Unearthed Demo Day takes place on Tuesday – it will showcase 7 exciting startups focused on the resources sector, some of whom have emerged from our Unearthed program.
Aiming to become the premier technology innovation event for the resources sector in Australia, Unearthed Demo Day will showcase some of the sector’s most exciting technology startups and facilitate a conversation about industry’s preparedness for the impact of new technologies. Unearthed Demo Day is the culmination of a year-long national innovation program that has connected more than 500 innovators to challenges from supporters such as Anglo American, Iluka Resources, and CSIRO. In the process, Australian entrepreneurs have produced more than 100 promising prototype technologies. The event will take place on 8 December in Perth as part of the week-long West Tech Fest celebration of innovation.

The Hon. Colin Barnett, MEc MLA, Premier of WA will open Demo Day with a welcoming address. The Premier said:
“As the resources sector in WA increases overall production, innovation will be critical to improving efficiency and productivity to compete globally, and also to meet environmental and social responsibilities, I congratulate Unearthed on its efforts to create opportunities for Australian
entrepreneurs and look forward to seeing more innovative technologies developed in
Erica Smyth, Deputy Chairman, ANSTO; Director, Deep Exploration Technologies CRC; and Director, Emeco will deliver a keynote presentation, asking whether industry is doing enough to prepare for the disruption coming from technology change.
A panel discussion moderated by Professor Peter Klinken, Chief Scientist of WA, will continue the theme and explore whether Australia has any comparative advantages when it comes to innovation.
Unearthed has selected 6 promising startups of various stages of development to introduce their technologies. These startups operate in domains as diverse as wearable devices, drone data, and electric motors. Also included is Newton Labs, the company that recently graduated from the Unearthed Accelerator program and won a WA Innovator of the Year award.
