  • Perth Taxi Drivers Uber Peeved: What would you do if you found one day that your expensive taxi license was at risk from a bunch of upstarts at a software company? That’s what Perth-based drivers are lashing out about, as Uber begins to move into the Western capital. Speaking at a forum in Perth last week, taxi drivers hit out at Uber and its Black service, which is soft-launching in the West right now. via Perth Taxi Drivers In Revolt Over Uber | Gizmodo Australia.
  • This hypocritical whiney and screechy article from The Business Spectator seems to make a lot of sense.  Does the Startup sector need an independant industry body?
Start-up rent-seekers need to stop their whining
  • Brodie McCulloch, creator of Spacecubed is currently spying on researching Co-working spaces all over New York and Canadia (thanks Tony). Bring us back a New York hot dog Brodie.

  • The Startup News Atomic Pitch(SNAP) Night has some interesting pitches lined up already, come along and watch, or signup to do your own pitch.  We promise to be gentle.  There is a Google Chromecast for the peoples vote on best presented pitch.

  • A consultation session was held for the Entrepreneurs Infrastructure Programme (EIP) at the AusIndustry office in St Martins Tower on Thursday.  The new programme seems to be more geared toward providing advice and services to Small to Medium Business than to providing funding to startups. Approx 40 people attended the briefing and the overall audience consensus was that startups didn’t need more advisory services, but more small scale commercialisation grants.  AusIndustry are seeking feedback until the 19th June, so get your thoughts in here. One last thing, from July 1, you can get a FREE Business Evaluation which will give you lots of useful recommendations.
  • Founder Institute is currently underway and I’m hearing good feedback from a few of the participants.  Tough, challenging, but extremely valuable lessons and exercises in entrepreneurship is what you will get out of FI. Not everyone will make it through, but this is a good thing for entrepreneurs to learn about themselves early on.
  • SNAP! That’s what we are calling our new startup pitch nights, held at the shiny new Tech Hub in Northbridge on the 24th June.  You can pitch your idea to an audience of peers and potential investors, or just come along to hear our guest speaker and get inspired by some new pitches. Get your tickets here.
  • Atomic Sky Tech Hub is looking to set up a mini film studio, green screen and everything.  Interested in using it for presentations, pitches, introduction videos, explainers?  Express your interest with Arna to find out more.
  • Happy Friday the 13th!
