Heres an idea for an enterprising media or advertising entrepreneur. Sign up all the local Blogs and represent them to obtain big advertising dollars.

Advertising rep agencies don’t want to deal with small traffic blogs because they have little traffic, but because there are so many of them, and its hard to work out their readership demographic, and there are oh so many of them, and all this takes time.

But, if some enterprising entrepreneur could signup all those blogs, and be a human contact point for them and to them, then the bigger agencies will deal with you so you get some valuable advertising dollars.

For bloggers who currently earn $5 per month from Google, waiting for that elusive month in the future when they hit $100 and get their cheque in the mail, they would rather sell a sponsored article, or native advertising in their blog for $100 for a one week feature. Or their newsletter(what? you don’t have a newsletter? >:-| ) could be earning them $50 per ad or advertorial. Pure CPM at Google rates just doesn’t help local low volume niche targeted bloggers at all. What they need is an agency that understands their readers demographics and helps sell their blogs value.

Let’s show an example: James runs a blog on “Buggy Whip Styles 1850-1875”, and has a small but select following of enthusiasts. His Adsense revenue just about covers his hosting, but it could be much larger if buggy whip manufacturers could advertise with him direct.

These are some of the benefits that you could be giving to Bloggers, and taking a cut of this, as well as providing other services, such as ad integration, design etc.

So what about it, are you up for the challenge? If you think this is for you, //Startup News will back you(metaphorically) all the way. How would you do it? That’s for you to decide my dear entrepreneur, but I would probably;

  • Collate a list of all the Perth Blogs on all topics
  • Find the editor, this is hard, and time consuming, because some of them hide behind twitter accounts and uncontactable contact forms.
  • Interview them and find out their traffic stats, factual or anecdotal reader demographics
  • Current or planned revenue growth strategies
  • Desirable and minimal revenue rates per CPM
  • Sign them up for full advertising management control by you.
  • Categorise all the Perth Blogs from your research into demographics and categories

Now, why stop there, you have now got a company that basically aggregates and sells low traffic advertising spaces(properties). You have a system to manage these properties and owners, and a marketplace that you can sell the space into. Why not explore the non digital space as well, Car doors – windows – roofs(yes people do look down on them), bicycle wheels, helmets.

 

So, that’s my idea for the day, yours for free. Like we say at //Startup News, ideas are a dime a dozen, execution is worth double that.
