The Perth Linux User Group are holding a special meeting on Saturday to celebrate Software Freedom Day.

Most people don’t care about Software Freedom, they buy their Windows or Apple computers and merrily sign the terms and conditions that restrict how they can use the machine they just bought. It’s like buying a pad of paper on the condition that you don’t write anything on it in red ink, about flowers, or with a pencil.

plug-logoFree Software doesn’t do that. Free software says you have a right to know what the software does, to play with it, alter it and improve it. Free software is what the internet is built on, because it can be trusted, because anyone can look at the source code and see that it does what it says it does.

So if you think you might like to learn more about Software Freedom and why the internet is built on it, why it matters to every one of us, and how you could start using free software to make the world a better place, then shoot along to Spacecubed this Saturday to find out.

Sign up here for the meetup event to let them know you’re coming.
