Reducing the IT Industry to a Click

Hosted by the Information, Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering (ITEE), Institute of Instrumentation, Control & Automation (IICA), Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE), guest speaker Graeme Speak, CEO / Founder of GoPC will talk about GoPC and it’s technology.

GoPC recently lodged a patent application for a new cloud computing platform technology called Rainmaker. It was recognised by Rackspace, covered by technology evangelist Robert Scoble and caught the interest of both Stanford University and Bill Tai from Charles River Ventures.

Rainmaker deploys virtual workstation and servers inside a supercomputer and reduces IT costs for organisations by 70%. An entire PC/Server network can be rolled out in minutes compared to months. The architecture is future-proof and rebuilds new workstations on every login. While cloud hosting providers can take 10 minutes to reboot a virtual machine, Rainmaker can deploy thousands in the same timeframe.

Whether Linux, Android or Windows workstations, one digital office across all sites is now just a click and costs pennies in the dollar.

This is background story of innovation, evolution and entrepreneurship that went into creating GoPC.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Graeme Speak, Entrepreneur, Technologist. Kitesurfer. Thinking Internet expansion would plateau in 1995 Graeme saw a new opportunity for ISPs to move into hosting data centres. He created Central Data which grew into one of Australia’s leading ASP’s (Application Service Providers). Although successful the technology costs were stripping 90% of the businesses revenue. The team were forced to innovate and pivoted launching GoPC in 2005, an Internet service hosting virtualized Linux PC desktops.

Graeme drove GoPC from concept to commercialisation against the mainstream thinking of the time. In 2007 he relocated to Silicon Valley and found himself at the centre of the cloud computing revolution as it happened. In 2009 GoPC was selected as one of the leading cloud startups in Silicon Valley by Silicom Ventures Summit at Stanford University. In 2013 the company was again recognised by Rackspace, Stanford University and covered by technology evangelist Robert Scoble.

Graeme frequently advises on cloud computing strategy, innovation and start-ups.
