Startup News is back!

Everyone needs a rest once in a while. But now, Startup News is back. We’ve put the whole band back together, plus a new contributor, new sponsor and a new focus on WA startup scene for 2018 and beyond…

After a 5 month pause, Startup News hits the reboot button. We’re back baby!

We will focus on just two things – covering the latest NEWS and EVENTS from WA’s early stage startup sector.

We will keep the site free and open. We won’t be putting up a paywall, nor seek advertising nor sponsored content.

In order to cover costs, we will invite sponsors to work with us, and we are delighted to welcome our first sponsor for 2018, ECU The Link. We welcome them and thank them for the faith they have showed in the team and our mission.

We also welcome a new contributor, who will be well known to most of you, Charlie Gunningham. As former aussiehome.com cofounder, reiwa.com GM and Business News CEO, he adds his media experience and business savvy to the team. Charlie works full time for the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (“Accelerating Commercialisation” Programme) assisting companies gain access to federal grants of up to $1million. Working with Startup News, Charlie can also keep his eye on the local startup/innovation scene.

Since the last post in August, Startup News cofounder Marcus Holmes has taken a position in Cambodia as CEO of the Phnom Penh Post, but is still involved!

Fellow cofounder Patrick Green has been working hard with fintech startup Credi. He’s based out of the Thinklab Coworking space in Freo and has also set up a startup meetup there called Freo Startups.

Meanwhile Miles Burke has been busy working on Bam Creative (now 15 years young!) as well as 6Q from his base in Northbridge. Mark Cuban retweeted his excellent post about 6Q recently.

All 4 are well known around Perth’s startup scene, and actively mentor on various startup programs. We are recharged and raring to go in 2018, but need your support. Being 4 blokes, we’d love to get some female contributors on board, so please do get in touch if you or someone you know is interested in helping out with regular content pieces.

We are volunteers and do not get paid for this work. What we ask of you is to provide us with the best startup stories, subscribe to our weekly newsletter service and share the stories that appeal to your networks. Bring us your upcoming events so we can promote them on our calendar.

SEND your NEWS stories to [email protected] and EVENTS to [email protected]

Sponsorship money will pay the out of pocket costs of the site, and possibly for some student journalists to post regular stories and provide them with some media experience. ‘The Lean Hackman’ may make the occasional appearance.

Here’s to WA’s startup sector! Here’s to Startup News!

Let’s see what 2018 holds in store…
