There’s a common misconception that basing a business in a “lifestyle city” like Perth means you only need to know your local consumers.

This assumption can cut you off from huge potential markets, according to Spacecubed Impact Manager, Chandra Sundareswaran, who coordinates the muru-D Plus Eight accelerator.

“Australian startups like Canva and Atlassian have shown us that there is global market for Australian digital products. Perth’s time zone and proximity to Asia makes it a great launchpad to create world-beating startups and businesses and scale quickly to Asia and beyond.

Programs like Plus Eight Sprint gives startups and founders with interesting business ideas an opportunity to develop their businesses and scale internationally.

“We hope these startups will take their part in the thriving innovation culture in Western Australia, stepping up to take their place on the global stage, which is a critical part of our economic future” says Chandra.

Plus Eight Sprint is built specifically for West Australian based founders, with an emphasis on practical application and rapid results.

The program covers business model development, validation and customer
testing, product and prototyping, growth and marketing, mindset and teams, and funding and pitching.

By the end of the 6 week Sprint program, founders should feel ready to take the next steps forward with product development, raising seed funding or applying to a full accelerator program such as Plus Eight’s 6 month program to further refine their product, team and company.

Previous success stories from Plus Eight’s 6 month program include short-term space-for-rent website SpacetoCo, which featured on Channel 10’s Shark Tank last year, attracting interest from Steve Baxter for a $210,000 investment.

Neurotech company HUMM Tech moved over to San Francisco after completing Plus Eight and securing investment from a Silicon Valley-based investor . Organic waste collection service Kooda won the ‘People’s Vote Award’ at this year’s Impact Seed.

Applications for the Sprint pre-accelerator are currently open, with the program commencing on March 16th.

The 6 week program is offered at a subsidised fee of $1298 per founder, or $998 per founder for teams of two or more.

Thanks to the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Plus Eight is excited to offer a limited number of fully funded scholarships to the Plus Eight Sprint program.

Program scholarships are strictly limited and will be done on a selection basis by the Plus Eight selection committee.

To apply for the program, and one of the Commonwealth Government funded scholarships, please complete the application form before February 28th at https://pluseight.spacecubed.com/academy/sprint.
